Thanks for the congratulations guys. As Mick alluded to, was pretty happy to pull some throws out when I needed them. I would never have predicted that I'd take out the light hammer after finishing I think 5th in it at Waipu.

Paeroa is a quality games and I always enjoy competing there. Fantastic that despite the rain threatening all day, the crowds were still at record size.

How did Reuben do in the farmers walk?

And that's the last time Danny Hamman does caber without sprigs!

Was it a smaller field than last year or did the results only go down to Danny? (7th?).
Good to see he has kept it up.
Really kicking myself for not being there now - oh well - might start throw training again soon just to achieve something come October in Newcastle.

Yes, only 7. My understanding is that Pat had a bicep strain and is putting his focus on being ready for worlds. Matt Rossiter retired at Waipu and 6'7 Craig Read didn't travel down.

Yeah, I knew about Pat.
Just wondered where everyone else was.
Nobody threw any beer kegs then?

2nd attempt of the evening international caber challenge.
As you know the Sun was shinning directly into our eyes.
I picked up the caber changing the angle of my run to avoid the sun. I did not see the compare of the show talking with Ruben and both fixated on fixing the intercom, therefore also not seeing what I was doing. Whilst running with caber observed the compare and Ruben. Extreme panic took over, not wanting to kill or injure either of them started yelling at them to which they were oblivious. Tried to pull out of the caber and drop to the ground, with the caber just missing both of them inches only in it. Scared the shit out of me. (ALso very worried about being severly punished by Ruben). Ruben and the compare still oblivious to the whole incident until the caber hit the ground.

The gasps from the large crowd indicated that they got a good shock as well.

THnaks to the sportsmanship of the guys I was given another 2nd attempt, this time decided in the best interest and ran directly into the sun.

Panic all round but no injuries to anyone from this incident.

Wow... so we get Danny slipping and nearly tacking himself out with the caber. Angus getting his head connected by a wayward sheaf; and Reuben and the compare nearly taken out by a caber.

Pretty full on day.

Well done Lads, Sorry I could not be there i heard it was fun and quite a bit of banter was being thrown around on the day as the unofficial "bagging" event. Quiet and steady does wonders during the day for the win. I will be at Paeroa next year woohoo.
