Cycle 12
Week 1
Monday 8 February 2010
Goodlife 103 Edward St
Deadlift
Training max 247.5kg

Prescribed

5 x 162.5kg (65%)
5 x 187.5kg (75%)
5+ x 212.5kg (85%)

Actual

5 x 60kg
2 x 100kg
1 x 140kg
5 x 162.5kg
5 x 187.5kg
5 x 212.5kg PR

Assistance/GPP

Rack Pulls

5 x 220kg
3 x 240kg

Notes

• I am very sore after events training on Saturday and being involved in a large brawl in my security job on Saturday night. I had not much gas in my tank for this workout but I was glad to grit my teeth at get a rep record of 5 x 212.5kg (246.5kg). Rack pulls were a bit of a write off, my traps are sore (from farmers) and my knee was sore so I just did a few reps.

• Rest of the weeks will be pretty events specific as I really only have three weeks of training, then a deload week, to prepare for the March 6 comp.

Tim

You are the most inspirational person on this forum. With everything you have been through no one would blame you for taking the intensity you exhibit down a notch.
Your focus on competing in this next comp is amazing . The difference between winning and losing is largely due to what's between the ears, and no amount of training can develop that ,you've either got it or you don't, and you have it in spades.

Well done

Darling Downs Strongest Man update

the word is that a couple of events have changed - the 120kg stone over 1200mm for reps has been changed to a 130kg stone - bloody heavy! Also the log press is now clean once and press out the set - this is good for me!

Overhead

Clean and Push Press (clean once and press out)

20 x 15kg
10 x 15kg
5 x 60kg

10 x # 10
5 x 10 x #15

Triceps Push Down

5 x 20 x #10

Notes

• Pretty cruisy session, I still don't have a lot of energy but this is due to still getting over my knee infection I think. My strength is still ok. Unfortunately I spent more time talking than training at the gym this morning

Keep training mate!! Don't get distracted!! Only a couple weeks to the comp!!! Just remember, when your talking , someone else is training harder than you!!!

Good to see your back into it though with the knee and all. Good luck on the healing and see you in a couple weeks.

Prescribed

Actual

3 x 202.5kg

Assistance/GPP/Events

Duck Walk

2 x 20m x 100kg
2 x 20m x 140kg

Notes

• Good session all round. First attempt at duck walk - the weight isn't a problem but it sure is awkward - which I guess is the point! I loaded my implement with 20kg plates, and the handle is wider again so I can't imagine the implement we use in the comp will be as awkward as mine, which is good!

• I really need to get a drag implement set up for home, my brother is supposed to be getting me a pallet and chain, I will have to chase him up!

3 x 100kg
3 x 112.5kg
3 x 125kg (loaded it wrong, should've been 127.5kg)

Assistance/GPP/Events

Push Press

20 x 20kg
5 x 60kg
5 x 5 x 80kg

Notes

• Not a bad session. Push press felt good, which is probably the first time ever for overhead stuff for me! I didn't try to go any heavier as I will be doing some 100kg logs at events training on Saturday.

• Considering having tomorrow off to make sure I am fresh for events on Saturday. May or may not happen.

Notes

•Went to a different gym with a workmate at lunchtime. Training with others, a different time of day, being rushed and a yoga class next to me (yes the group fitness and free weights area is in the same room) made it difficult to get motivated. Should have had a rest day. Actually with the volume of work I did, it pretty much was a rest day.

• Events tomorrow. Lots of stones.

• Very good session. Still need to get some work in with the 130kg stone though. I planned to use the log but it was not at training so got in the extra work with the barbell instead.

Duck Walk

2 x 20m x 100kg
2 x 20m x 140kg

Notes

• I was happy with the session. The 220kg squat came up easy, I didn't go for a second rep as the focus at the moment is on events for the 6 March comp. I got the confirmed details for the event in my email this morning (after training) and I notice the duck walk is actually 170kg in the comp, so I am going to have to bump that up. I am still confident that due to how hard my implement is, any other implement will be a piece of cake (famous last words....)

• I made the mistake of not eating before I trained - dumb I know. I actually started to feel quite sick after the duck walks, and still feel a bit rubbish now. Lesson learned!

Overhead tomorrow.

Notes

• Overhead presses felt great, my conditioning has definitely improved on these. I am planning to do stones this arvo so there was no real point in smashing the assistance exercises.

Went to the doc today re my knee. It is still inflamed, but the doc believes the infection is gone. Pathology testing have proven that the bursa was a separate inflamation to the celluitis and seticaemia.

Doc has prescribed me Celebrex (an anti inflamitary). She has also given me a pathology request to redo my full bloods, looking in particular at my liver enzyme values which were elevated last time. She has also requested test and free test which will be interesting. I will get the testing done the week after the comp.

5 x 187.5kg
3 x 212.5kg
1 x 240kg PR

Assistance/GPP/Events

Notes

• I made a deal with myself that if I lifted 240kg I would have an early mark from the gym. I locked it out, so no assistance work! Very happy with the 240kg - onwards and upwards from here.

• I had planned to do some stones yesterday arvo but the heavy rain put an end to that - so I am still trying to work out where I can fit an extra stones session this week.

Bench press tomorrow.

Assistance/GPP/Events

Barbell Push Press

5 x 20kg
5 x 60kg
5 x 5 x 90kg

Notes

• 2 x 135kg is my best rep max(141kg) since November.

• I have been doing stacks of overhead pressing to improve my conditioning for the log press for reps (90kg). I am a lot more confident I will do ok in this event now.

• I am thinking I really should have a day off training tomorrow but I think I will find myself in the gym. Today was my final day of week 3, cycle 12. It is two weeks till my comp, so next week will be mostly events, then a deload week. I will use the opportunity to reset all my training maxes when I start back the week after that, as I am pretty close to stalling in everything.
