After some second hand gear to get me started

Postby Alexius on Sat Feb 27, 2010 6:57 am

Hi all,

I am new to the sport of / training for Strongman and want to get hold of some gear. Having just moved after 4 years on Austudy I'm not exactly loaded with cash and would like to get some second had gear that is not totally shagged just to get me started. Maybe you've upgraded or just have some surplus training gear ?

I'm after some shoes for squatting as I have long shins and find it hard to keep my feet flat on the floor so need something with a bit of a heal. I'm a size 10 AUS.

Knee and wrist wraps ?

and a large powerlifting belt that will adjust between 42 and 47 inches.

Any of these items would be a great help to me ( and keep my wife off my back about spending too much money) Hey maybe if I squat with my wife on my back I'll get stronger anyway !

Thanks, Alex

Hi Guys,

Seeing I've had zero replies I thought I'd better add that I'm not after free gear !
I am willing to pay what is fair but just can't afford to go and get new stuff at the moment.
Does anyone have any old gear they want to sell ?

Thanks, Alex

Alex,
I don't have any gear to spare, as I've already given away all my older stuff to local WA lifters.
But Shoes and Belt are things that will last virtually a lifetime if you start with decent quality.

The shoes from Queensland weightlifting are probably the best value, almost as good as adidas but a lot cheaper

For a Belt and wraps, these would be about $200 delivered from Lifting Large.
here's the belt I have which i highly recommend

For training wraps you can pick these up from local sports stores. Be aware that they are not approved ( for licensing payment reasons only ) for use
in Australian powerlifting comps.

or if you want them straight away you could get in Australia from Minh at Titan.

I don't recommend the Toro lever belts as the one I've seen looked a bit flimsy.
But considering you have to pay GST and freight if you order a few things it will generally work out cheaper from lifting large.

note if you sign up to the lifting large email newsletter they normally have 10-15% off sales a few times a year

Thanks for the advice,

I will check out those places as the prices sound good to me. I have a really crappy reebok belt at the moment and it is useless ! Plus I've dropped a bit of my gut over the last few weeks and it just doesn't do up tight enough anymore !

Thanks mate,
Alex
