IPF Ban Metal, Craine and APT Equipment[

Postby James_grahame on Sat Feb 06, 2010 4:27 pm

PL Watch (http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/node/14394) notes that The International Powerlifting Federation are to ban the use of Metal, Craine and APT equipment in all of its meets. APT gear will be banned from Monday 8th February, with all Metal and Craine gear to be banned from the 30th of June.

Many lifters have equipment from these companies, including expensive squat suits, deadlift suits, bench shirts and wraps, which is sure to prove a financial blow and possibly even put people off competing.

The IPF have cited the failure of these companies to pay a yearly license fee which is over $13,000 as the reason behind the ban. View the IPF Approved Equipment List (http://www.powerlifting-ipf.com/Approved-List.51.0.html) for full details.

Oh brilliant - good move there in these times of financial burden!
Interesting that companies have to pay the IPF a fee (WTF!?).

Funnily enough just talking about possibility of doing more PL this year and who to do it with.
Being as my wraps and stuff are all APT I guess my decision has been made ! Haha.

What is with the strength sports these days.

Good job Scotty isn't into PL'ing or who knows what sort of cataleptic state he'd go into

IPF is extorting the manufacturers....
$13,000 a year...

Crain doesnt want to pay it, APT and metal probably dont need to.. (as they have strong business ties in other feds)...

IPF is shooting itself in the foot and yet again alienating many of its members...
Give it a few more years and we may see a name change to: IPF: Inzer powerlifting federation or the Titan powerlifting federation....

That being said, the IPF needs a revenue stream to stay afloatv

Not banned, simply these companies have yet to pay their fees. Metal will pay and have tried to pay already. Titan, Inzer and Metal all realise that the IPF is still the largest market in powerlifting. Crain and APT will pay eventually.

What a crock of shit-the organisations need the gear guys to keep afloat. It the 'I scratch your back-u scratch mine'. The lifter loses out in the end. The IPF should have a RAW division-all this bullshit gear only divides the sport and makes it look stupid. Do real athletes waddle up to a squat rack, or look like a robot with their arms sticking out?? Raw is the only way to go. I would love to see the IPF have a raw division-this is the only way to go if PL wants to go to the Olympics.

I'm with Kaz and others for raw div in IPF.

its always disheartening when one thinks he's put in a decent effort and numbers until some zombie-walking dude walks up and make your lift look like it belongs in the womens 67kg division!

I have no probs at all with lifters using equipment, I just wished we had our own raw div.

anyhow for poor chaps like me and for the sport to attract young people who cannot afford shirts, suits and wraps, they (ipf) should take our plight into consideration and make a raw div.

if not then I'll start me own fed. only it'll be International Poorman's Federation!!

"take the shirt off and lift like a man!"
Magnus Samuelsson replied when asked about bench shirts after he completed a 280kg raw bench!

only my opinion..

happy Easter all!

things are moving slowly.
For a start the Commonwealth Powerlifting Federation has introduced a Raw divison.
The originator of this was Peter Fiore, former IPF world champion and 300kg squatter at 75kg way back when single ply meant minimal carryover.

In West Australia I have introduced raw records, eventually they will appear nationally, but might need a while longer for momentum to build.
But if you really want Raw introduced, Bagging equipped lifting is not the way to do it, you just need to become a member and lobby the Powerlifting
Australia board.

The IPF will introduce a raw division when enough countries demand it, or when competitive pressure from other federations makes it impossible to ignore
any longer.
